WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
Whatawhata. —A meeting of the institute was held recently at which Mrs. Sopor presided. The roll call, "a cure for a fit of the blues," resulted in many amusing cures, but the most popular cure seemed to be "A big fat cheque." The "literary competition" was won by Mrs. McGibbons. A bring and buy stall, in the charge of Miss I. Bruce, was well patronised, everything being sold. A very keen interest was taken in the "sealing wax" demonstration given by Mrs. Jack Rowe, of Frankton. A delicious afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Drower, Livingstone, Petlcy and Carpenter.
The first meeting of the year of the Huntly Women's Institute, which took the form of an open evening, was held recently. Mrs. T. Chisholm presided, and extended a welcome to both old and new members. The evening was devoted to amusements, several games and competitions being held. The winners were:—Mesdames A. Brown, F. Hanley, T. Leather and T. Chisholm. Supper was afterward served, several members of the executive acting as hostesses. >
