Miss Henderson, Dominion secretary of the New Zealand Anglican Girls' Bible Class Union, left on Tuesday evening by the limited express for the South' to attend the .annual camp and conference. She will visit Queenstown and the Southern Alps before returning to Auckland.

An interesting visitor' to Johannesburg recently was Mrs. Rachel Rabinowitz, an executive council member of the Union of Jewish Orphans' Relief Association of the Polish Republic State. She arrived to conduct a campaign throughout South Africa to raise money for the support of the orphanages. There are 235 of these institutions in Poland at present, holding 15,000 children of all ages, who not only are housed and fed, but are also educated.

The year 1932 will be looked upon as j an historic one in civic aunals in Pretoria and in South Africa generally, because for the first time it saw a woman as chief citizen of a capital city. Mrs. Malherbe, the retiring Mayor, took office time almost unprecedented in the annals of the city, as far as distress and financial depression were concerned, but, she tackled the problems heroically and it is well known that she led the way in the practical solution of the unemployment problem.

A passenger by tho Morinda, which arrived at Auckland yesterday, was Miss Lyal Hilliard, of Sydney, who has been spending an extended holiday at Norfolk Island. Miss Hilliard is a young lady who has travelled extensively during the past few years and on several occasions she has passed through New Zealand on her way to more or less isolated spots in the South Sea Islands. Recently Miss Hilliard has given a series of travel talks from Sydney broadcasting stations, and she -will fulfil broadcasting engagements during her New Zealand visit. Miss Hilliard is staying with her sister-in-law, Mrs. F. V. Hilliard, of Onehunga.
