I DISTRICT OF ASSAM LONG CONTINUED SERIES CALCUTTA, Dec. 5 j A long series of earth tremors, which j has been disturbing Assam, shows no j sign of abatement. Dhubri, which appears j to be the centre of the disturbance, con- : tinites to register one daily. | It is reported that a hill in the Card j Range of Assam has become active and | that smoke is issuing from tlie crest. Exj ports do not anticipate danger, believing I that although Assam is on a volcanic chain there is no cause for alarm. The province of Assam includes the Assam Valley Division, the Surma Valley and the Hill Division and the State of j Manipur. It is surrounded by mountainous ' ranges on three sides, and on the fourth 1 (the west) lies the province of Bengal, i Earthquakes of considerable severity have j taken place in Assam, the worst having j occurred in 1897.
