LOCAL COMPOSERS' WORK The qualities of many Auckland musicians as composers of music were demonstrated at a reception given by the president and council of the Auckland feocietv of Musicians to the members in the L\ ceum Club last evening. J he programme comprised only the work of local coinposers and the items presented showed that Auckland is by no means lacking in talented musicians, from the point of view both of composition and interpretation. The newly-elected president, Mr. J. Maughan Barnetl, extended a welcome tc the new members of the council and new members of the society, ihe progiamme commenced with a trio in G Minor foi the violin, 'cello and piano composed by Mr. H. Luscombe. The piece contained a vigorous theme and was excellently rendered by Miss Joan Allen (violin), Dr. Trevor de ("live Lowe ('cello), and Mr. Luscombe (piano). A selection for the violin and.piano entitled "Sonatina" bv Mr. Tracy Moresby was another very interesting item and was rendered by Miss Helen Gray (violin) and Mr. .Moresby (piano). Ihe remainder of (he programme comprised original songs, including "Cavalier (^''"• Owen Jensen), sung by ■ M l "* Thompson: " Love s Gift (Mr. Eric Waters), sung by Mr. Len Barnes; and "The Hose Song" and '.l heir Secret (Mr. IT. Barry Coney), sung by Mrs. Cyril T'wsev, Supper was served at the conclusion of the evening.
