QUESTION OF ARBITRATION NO POWER FOR INSISTENCE [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION'] WELLINGTON, Tuesday In a question in tlie House of Representatives to-day, Mr. H. T. Armstrong (Labour —Christchurch East) asked, in view of the serious losses to primary producers and wage-earners as a result of the freezing works stoppage, if the Minister would insist on all matters being referred to arbitration for settlement. He said he understood the employees were prepared io abide by the judgment of the Arbitration Court. The Hon. A. Hamilton, Minister of Internal Affairs, said he had already mads a number of efforts to bring about a settlement of the dispute. He had no power to insist on it being referred to arbitration.
