WAITEMATA COUNCIL

BRANCH REPORTS

Clevedon. —There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting, Mrs. Adams presiding. The secretary reported that the birthday danco was a great success socially and financially. Arrangements wero made for a picnic during January. A short musical programme and a competition on toy-making, followed by afternoon tea, brought an enjoyable afternoon to a close.

Karaka. —A successful flower show "was held at tho November meeting, visitors attending from Drury, Waiau Pa and Pukekawa branches. Entries in different sections numbered 120, Mrs. Sharp, of Ramarama, acting as judge. Mrs. L. L. Allen, president of the Waitemata Provincial Council, gave an interesting address on the work of the division, and also presented tho prizes. Competitions and music mado a bright afternooh.

Onewhcro. —The Onowhero branch held ono of their happiest functions, over 60 members being present. The guests of honour wftro tho grandmothers and grandfathers of the district, each grandmother being presentod with a posy. Mrs. L. L. Allen gave a comprehensive talk on the bush-nurse and housekeeping scheme. A musical programme was rendered, ono appealing item being '.'Let's Grow Old Together," presented by three couples showing tho stages of time. A thrift competition of articles nwlo from flour or sugar bags was instructive. A presentation of a deck chair and a travelling cushion was made to Mrs. Cole-Baker, who leaves shortly for the Homeland. Tho afternoon ended with afternoon tea, tho conveniences of the new kitchen of tho hall being appreciated.

Pukekawa.—The monthly meeting, presided over by Mrs. M. Orr, the secretary, reported on the valuable work done by the Provincial Council. It was decided to help the Blind Institute at their fair in December by sending produce for tho produce stall. Tho roll call, "Sing, say, play or pay," proved very interesting, as was also tho exchange oi' Christmas gifts not exceeding Is in value. A demonstration on Christmas cake making is to be given to junior members by the president. Mauku-Patumahoe.—At a recent meeting, Mrs. Howe, president, welcomed the visitors from Puni branch—Mesdames J. N. M;issey and Preece —who acted as judges of articles not. exceeding 6d, made bv members. An embroidered cloth made from 1001b flour bag secured first prize, second prize going to a shopping bag made from sugar bag dyed brown with onion skins and wattle bark and embroidered in coloured wools. Other useful and clever articles included scoops made from tins and sun hats from khaki drill shirts. The roll-call of members' favourite hobbies resulted in interesting replies. The rest of the afternoon was spent in competitions, music and afternoon tea.
