MORE RAIN NEEDED
CONDITIONS IN WAIKATO
NO DEARTH OF GREEN FEED
[from our own correspondent]
HAMILTON, Thursday
Little rain has fallen in the Waikato during this month, and the fall of warm rain which occurred between 9 a.m. and noon to-day was very welcome. There is no dearth of green feed on the farms at present, but root crops are much in need of refreshing showers. To-day's fall was quite inadequate. Fine, humid weather prevailed this afternoon.
RANGITAIKI PLAINS FARMS
SETTLERS SHORT OF WATER
[BY TELEGRAFH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] "VVHAIvATAXE, Thursday
The output of butter from the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Company's factory for October showed an increase over the out* put for the same month last year of over 60 tons, 396 tons having been made. The make for the season to date is 877 tons, au increase of nearly 18 per cent.' Although there is an abundance of feed in the district, rain is needed. Settlers in many cases are in urgent need of water both for domestic and general farm use.
SHOWERS IN THE CITY
"WEATHER LATER CLEARS
The i-ecent spell of fine warm weather was broken yesterday, when light rain fell in the city and suburbs in the morning. The rain, although gentle, continued steadily until about noon, when conditions became clearer.
There was not a sufficiently heavy fall, however, to bring any lasting benefit to crops, the rain being barely enough to revive flowers in suburban gardens. A much more substantial downpour is required to have any effect on crops. A heavy shower fell, in the southern suburbs about 2.30, but the weather cleared shortly afterward, the wind going round from the north to th e southwest in the late afternoon. There was bright sunshine from a clear sky throughout the greater part of the afternoon. The barometer, which fell throughout the morning, was steady at 30.00 in. in the afternoon and evening.
