DWELLING BURNED
ALARM GIVEN BY DOG
MOTHER RESCUES CHILDREN
[BY telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday
A five-roomed house at Kamo, occupied by Mr, H, B. Stockwell and family, was destroyed by fire shortly before one o'clock this morning. Mr. Stockwell has been absent from tho district during the past few days. Mrs. Stockwell was aroused by her dog and found the house on fire.
MVs. Stockwoll's experience was an unenviable one as her four young children were asleep in the house, and in the confusion she had difficulty in getting them out.
Neighbours and the Whangarei Fire Brigade were quickly on the scene, but with tho absence of an adequate water supply in that area the house was destroyed. Mrs. Stockwell saved some clothes, but practically everything else was lost. The house, which was owned by Mr. F. Courtney, of Kara, was insured for £475 with the Commercial Union office.
