THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE

EASING IN GILT EDGED

Under pressure from sellers the market {or Government securities showed a further decline on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Except in a few instances buyers did not operate, but three parcels were taken at substantially lower prices. The 1937 5} per cent February stock changed hands at £9B 15s, a. decline of 255, and 1958 per cent stock was released 22s 6d lower at £95 ss. There was a sale in 1941 per cent stock 7s 6d lower at £96 2s 6d. Quotations for the 1958 4j per cent and 1937 5£ per cent .issues were reduced correspondingly. The 1938 4i per cent bonds were available 5s lower at £96 5s and tho stock issue at £95 15s, also a reduction of ss. At £99 15s, quotations for 1937 per cent bonds showed a reduction of ss, and holders' limits for 1937 5i per cent September stock fell by 15s to £99 ss. Quotations for banks were generally lower and in two cases this had a stimulating effect on offers. A sale in Commercials unchanged at 14s 4d was accompanied by a decline in quotations of 2d to 14s sd, offers being increased by Id to 14s 3d. Nationals of New Zealand were available Is lower at £3 16s and offers rose by 2s to £3 12s. New Zealands were offered 3d lower at 45s 9d, but buyers were steady at 455. The insurance market was inactive. Buyers showed only nominal interest and holders of New Zealand* and South British were a shade firmer. On the other hand, Nationals were available at a slightly reduced figure. In loan and agency holders of N.Z. Guarantee Corporation reduced by 8d to ss. at which price there was a sale Is lower. Offers for Goldsbrough-Morts were 3d lower at 21s 9d and quotations fell by 6d to 22s 6d. A parcel of New Zealand Breweries was taken 3d lower at 265, but no further business resulted from a. subsequent reduction in quotations of 3d to 26s 3d. Although other leading industrial issues were easier, Colonial Sugars registered a further advance. Offers were 5s higher at £46 5s and, with a reduction in quotations of 10s to £47 10s, a parcel changed hands £1 higher at £47 ss. Levels in Waihis appreciated by Id to 18s 9d for offers arid 19s 3d for quotations. An advance of 4d was established in a sale at 19s. Alexanders were released 3d higher at 23s and Golden Dawns were taken at 5s 3d, an iinchangCtl price.
