Palersoii, S.M., John Archibald Cyril Fleming, former manager nnrl licensee of the Geyscr iiofel, Wairakei, -,vas charged with having, on October 28, kept, open the premises for the sale of liquor and with having exposed liquor for sale dining hours when (lie premises required to he -closed. Defendant pleaded guilty to hoth charges.
Lee K. Lun, barman, was charged with having exposed liquor for sale and pleaded not guilty. Lun slated in evidence that about 10.45 p.m. lie had .served two American guests with drinks and was cleaning up preparatory to closing t lk; door of the private liar ami going off duty, when three men walked in and asked for drinks. He refused, as they were not, hoarders. Just then Constable, W. Brown, of Tnupo, walked in. I,iin was convicted and fined 10s.
Fleming was convicted and fined £, r > on the charge of keeping the premises open fop the sale of liquor, the other charge being withdrawn. Referring to the fact that a dance had been in progress in a hall on the hotel property, the magistrate stated that in any similar ease in future he would deal with the license.
