Lady Chaytor, of England, arrived in Auckland by the Mariposa yesterday from Australia, where she has been continuing her series of lectures on fashions. She is on her way to America, where she will give further lectures.

Miss Margaret Somerville (Auckland), has gone to Oxford to take lectures at the University in Education and the Teaching of Literature. She will be there for the whole of this term, wrote our London correspondent on October 20.

Miss Christian Mackie (Whangarei), and Miss May Mitchell (Sydney), spent, August touring by car in Scotland, and •then they went to Ulster, where Miss Mackie has relatives, writes our London correspondent. She hopes to be in London for the next few .months. Whether she remains here for the English winter depends upon climatic conditions.

A most enjoyable concert was tendered at Kumeu on Saturday evening by the Swanson Revue Company in aid of the recreation grounds. The programme included songs, musical items, interspersed with elocution and a comedy sketch entitled " The Chinese Question." Tho assisting artists were Mr. Jim McFaddcn, June and Joan, Mr. Bert Hall, Mr. Ophir Rees, Mr. Hall, Mr. Gardiner, Miss Peggy Buchanan, Mr. Les Francis, Miss Nan Burton and Little Aldwyth. At the close of the programme dancing to radio music was enjoyed until midnight.

Miss Isobel Wilford is making a great success in A. A. Milne's fantastic comedy, " The Dover Road," which lias been staged at The Embassy for a brief run, writes our London correspondent. She takes the part of Anne, the girl eloping with Leonard (Mr. T. G. Saville), whose wife has previously eloped with someone else. How they all meet in "a sort of hotel" on the Dover Road, and bow each pair is saved from the Channel-crossing should need no telling to-day. Miss Wilford is charmingly fresh and coy, and her acting is characterised by a satisfying finish.

A very successful flag five hundred evening was held in the Puriri Tea liooms on Monday by the Manmewa Cricket Club. At the winning table were Mrs. D. Peebles, Mr. W. Callaghan and Mr. Stone. Mtss E. McDonald (Christchurch and Wliangarci) hns reached England after Jiaving spent two and a-lialf years in South Africa. She and her friend, Miss Ellin (Wliangarci) left New Zealand together, and determined to make their way by accepting professional duties when those were available. Both are qualified nurses, and their baby work is done on Trilby King lines. They both found that engagements wore easy to obtain in South Africa. T'or two years Miss McDonald was working with one of the • best-known specialists. Her nursing duties took her to Capetown, Johannesburg, Natal, and Rhodesia. She also went to Kenya, the Belgian Congo, and Uganda, and travelled to Cairo from Uganda bv the Imperial Airways Service. Miss Ellin arrved in England in advance of Miss McDonald. Together, since Juno, they have been travelling in England. Scotland and \V4les, and, having joined the Youtli Hostels Association. they have been able to visit many centres at small cost. They are both finding many attractions in London.
