NELSON STREET WHARF
ABANDONMENT OF PORTION
FISHING VESSELS AFFECTED
The abandonment of a portion of the Nelson Street Wharf was decided on by the Harbour Board at a meeting yesterday, when the state of the wharf was discussed.
The engineer, Mr. D. Holderncss, reported that the structure was in a state of poor repair, and if it was to be preserved would require considerable expenditure. The matter was being investigated by the Works Committee, and in the meantime repair work which had been put in hand had been discontinued. It was decided to abandon and close from access the portion of the wharf which had not been strengthened, and. to require all boats previously landing fish there to uuload at the City Market landings. The question of makihg further provision for fishing interests was deferred for 12 months.
