HAMILTON, Tuesday The short yarding of ox and cow beef at the Frankton stock sale to-day resulted in quotations showing a sharp increase on last week's values. No change was recorded in the rales for store cattle. Fat sheep also came forward in smaller numbers, prices showing little alteration. Values for a good entry of fat lambs remained firm jit last week's quotations. An average offering of fat pigs met with an improved market and sold at slightly increased rates. Store pigs also met with a better demand. The auctioneers quote as follows:

Practically no dairy cattle came forward. Values were:—Fat cows, £2 5s to £3 ss; fat heifers, 32s to £2; lighter cows. £1 7s 6d to £1 15s; killable cows. 19s to 2Gs; Polled Angus and Hereford store bullocks. £2 to £2 10s; other good store steers, 35s to £2; Jersey heifers, 37s to £2 10s; springing heifers, £2 5s to £3 10s; dairy cows, close to profit, £3 to £4 10s.

GISBORNE CATTLE FAIR

Low prices ruled at to-day's cattle fair at the Matawhero saleyards and in both the beef and store sections values were lower than at the spring fair. The beef entry totalled 232 head, generally of average quality. Values were below those ruling recently and only top lines brought any competition. A few pens of good cows made £2; others, 35s to 37s Gd, but the highest price was £2 10s for one pen. A pen of prime bullocks made £4 2s (kl a head and single bullocks tip to £3 10s. Ileifers ranged from 37s Gd to 45s and good vealers to 2Bs. Gd. There was a fairly large entry of good-conditioned store cattle, but values showed a big decline, and most of the morning's offering was passed. There was a better demand for hides at the fortnightly sale held by Auckland brokers yesterday. Some good quality lines cutue forward and t lie competition was keener, as exporters were operating to a wider exteut. The market has recently shown a firmer tendency and values have* already, improved in the South. _Ox hides showed greatest appreciation in price. Values for shipments were on a par with last week. Inquiry for tallow was more satisfactory and values wete a sluido firmer. Prices for the offerings of good quality runted as follows:
