Trials During Week-end All Auckland clubs held trials during the week-end. On Saturday afternoon the Auckland Rowing Club's At Home proved a great success and the eight-oar racing attracted much interest. In the club trials S. Scott defeated a good crew stroked by R. Porter, while m the West End trials, held in conjunction, M. H. D. Conway's eight beat that of V. Mactarfane. , The final between the winners for the Hampton Reynolds trophy was a great race. While many regretted that the Auckland stroke, Scott, had* trouble with his seat, F. Conwav, who rowed for .West End, is worthy ot praise for the manner in wbich he carried on through the race. At the fifth stroke Conway s seat came off the slide, falling to the bottom of the boat. The oarsman grasped the side of the eight with one hand to balance himself in the choppy water and swung in time with the rest of the crew all the way. West End owes much of its win to his resource.

Diomede's Racing Crew St. George's held its first trial fours for the Roussell Memorial Gup, F. G. Snedden winning the final. Waitemata s races for Mr. H. Wright's trophies were won by 0. J. C. Mason's crew. On Sunday, after a postponement owing to bad weather. the North Shore Club held trials for Mr. S. Dean's trophies along Cheltenham beach from Vauxhall to North Head. The winners were F. Sotham s four. North Shore has crews training for 1 aura nga and the addition of ft double sculling crew is under consideration. The club has a convert'ble pair-oar. An addition to the membership in the near future will be the. racing crew of the H.M.b. IJiomede. This cutter crew is expected to do well as a heavy maiden four. 'lhe University Club members will probably have a spin in one of Auckland's cl-nker eights on Sunday. The roll now numbers about 20. Auckland is the venue of the inter-university eights next. Faster The advisability of providing a class to be called junior-senior or senior 15, for all those oarsmen who after winning for two years in the junior class may not be then in a class for champion status, is to be considered by the Auckland Rowing Association.
