ft. HOOK IN SPRINTING FORM
The evening meeting held at the Domain hist Wednesday was the °"'y s !' 01 , s meeting conducted during the last wccv, and, a.s expected, it whs prodnctn n <> some interesting racing. I'. Hook, a >' liaxit sprinter of a couple of seasons ago, jnade a decisive "come hack" in Winning the 100 vards dash. He was certainly ofl a good 'mark, but nevertheless ho ran strongly and won clearly. If he. tiains on properly throughout the soason h© ' again h'e one of Ellioi's hardest opponents. V. Walker was 0,1 virtual scratch, s » nnd he put up a fine performance in finishing second. He is showing more dash than ever this season. A. Warren, o 4.vds, also showed up well, and it should n °t he lonjr before he again wins a final. L- Clapham was mentioned previously ns a young runner of promise, and the manner in which he finished over the 'ast 50 yards of the half-mile handicap to hear] Cooper 10 yards from the tape and win by a yard again showed that he is above (he average. Sprinting in training improved his finishing powers, ann will be a good handicap man this reason.
• J- W. Savidan and N. F. Cooper both had their first outings in this event, and Ve re the backmarkers, Savidan did not really extend himself at any stage, and was fairly well back at the finish. Cooper *ent fairly hard all the way, and gained the lead coming into the straight the last without training he could not old off Clapham at the last, and had he content with second place.
