PRICE OF TOBACCO
MEETING OF VENDORS
HIGH EXCHANGE OPPOSED
Optimism in connection with tho efforts of the Auckland Tobacconists and Hairdressers' Association and tho Associated Chambers of Commerce to have tobacco, cigars and cigarettes removed from the scope of ; lie Commercial Trust Act, 1910, with a view to placing tho fixation of prices in the hands of the Board of 'J radc, Wellington, was expressed at a meeting of tho association last evening, by delegates who recently waited on the Prime Minister. The delegates were Mr. R.. Hoppy, president of tho association, and Mr. C. Walker, treasurer.
A report from tho delegates was received, and was tho subject of favourable comment. A resolution was passed' expressing gratitude to the Associated Chambers of Commerce for their co-operation.
A protest against the proposed high rate of exchange was contained in a further resolution. The opinion was expressed by several speakers that tho proposed move would liavo an adverse effoct on the trade.
