PROBATION FOR THEFT

[llY TELEGRArH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Tuesday In the Supreme Court to-day, Mr. Justice Kennedy admitted Gordon Campbell, cx-postmaster at North Dunedin, to three years' probation for the theft of £79. The Judge took the view that but for tho unfortunate state of accused's health, he would not be in his present position, and said he thought the case was sufficiently unusual in the circumstances fo justify him in departing from the ordinary rule of imposing imprisonment.
Counsel stated that restitution had been made.
