NORTH SHORE WATER
NEW SUPPLY SOUGHT
CONSIDERATION BY BOARD
Having in mind the need for the provision of a water supply to supplement Lake Pupuke in view of the decline in the lake levels, the North Shore Water Board made an extended visit of inspection yesterday of a number of schemes which have been proposed.
The annual supply provided by Lake Pupuke totals 180,000,000 gallons and the annual consumption by the four North Shore boroughs amounts to 275,000,000 gallons. Thus 95,000.000 gallons are being drawn from storage each year and are not being replenished. TbJj means that a new source of supply will have to be found within eight or ten years. A wide tract of country was explored yesterday by the party, which comprised the Mayor of Devonport, Mr. 11. F. W. Meikle, chairman of the Water Board; Mr. G. Mills, Mayor of Birkenhead; Mr. R. Martin, Mayor of Norlhcote; and the deputy-mayor of Takapuna, Mr. J. F. Colegrove. The question will be reviewed by the Water Board at an early date.
