OPINION 'IN ENGLAND

VISITING BOWLERS ACCLAIMED

LONDON, Nov. 14 London newspapers are acclaiming the bowlers of the English cricket team as supermen, but also express the opinion that Victoria is not the cricket power she used to be.

The Evening News admits that England had all the luck in the world in getting both a batsman's and a bowler's wicket in the match against Victoria, and asserts that the success of the bowlers discounts the criticisms that the Englishmen are unable to take advantage of a sticky wicket.

A leading bookmaker's list, the Evening News states, shows that for the first cricket test match England is now quoted at evens, while he has taken all he wants about Australia at 6 to 4 and 5 to 4 on.

This reflects the general opinion, indicating that when Bradman, Woodfull, Ponsford, Kippax and McCabe are in the same sido the English bowlers will never dislodge them. England regards it as cheering <o reflect that Bradman, Woodfull and Grimmett have all had a failure. Ironmonger has been the chief source of trouble so far.

It is idle to prophesy until after the first test, but, says the Evening News, if the odds are against England in the first test, they must be against her winning the ashes.
