Mr. C. J. Tunks left by the express yesterday afternoon for Wellington.

Mr. G. L. Aickin, a Sydney business man, arrived at Auckland by the Marama yesterday.

Mr. H. S. N. Robinson, secretary of tho Melanesian Mission, returned to Auckland from Sydney by tho Marama yesterday.

Mr. E. J. Guinness, comptroller of the Railway Department Stores at Wellington, arrived by the express yesterday morning. He is at the Hotel Cargen.

Sir Cecil Day, official secretary to the Governor-General, arrived from Welling, ton by train yesterday morning. He left for the South with Lady Day last evening.

Mr. P. H. Harris, manager of the Christchurch branch of the South British Insurance Company, Limited, arrived in Auckland yesterday. He is at the Hotel Cargen.

Mr. V. B. Mclnnes, managing-directo* of V." B. Mclnnes and Company, Limited, returned from the South yesterday morning. PIo will visit Australia early next month.

Mr. E. Anderson will leave for San Francisco by the Mariposa this afternoon. He will spend about a fortnight on busi, ness in the United States before return, ing to the Dominion.

Dr! S. M. Lambert, medical representative of the Rockefeller Foundation in the South Pacific, who has been visiting New Zealand, will leave for Suva this afternoon by the Mariposa.

Mr. D. McCaskill bas been appointed senior inspector of the Wellington cduca. tion district, as from next February. Mr. W. J. Boden, who has held the position of acting-senior inspector, will be transferred to Auckland at the same time.

Mr. B. Cooper, a former New Zealander, whose home was in Hawke's Bay, and who, for the past 22 years, has been attached to the Survey Department in tho Federated Malay States, arrived by the Marama yesterday to spend his furlough in the Dominion.

The Rev. Dr. H. Ranston was appointed by the Auckland University College Council yesterday to be one of its representatives in the New Zealand University Senate, in place of Professor A. P. W. Thomas, to whom it was decided to send a letter of thanks for his long service in that capacity. Sir George Fowlds was reappointed as the other representative. Sir George and Mr. T. U. Wells were reappointed by the council as its representatives on the council of Massey Agricultural College.
