FAREWELL TO SERGEANT
POLICE OFFICER'S SERVICE
Tributes to the 40 years' service of Sergeant A. E. Rowell, officer in charge of the Otahuhu police station, were mado in speechos at the official farewell to that officer in the Otahuhu Magistrate's Court yesterday. Sergeant Rowell officiated at the Court yesterday for the last time, and entered upon threo months' leave. At the luncheon adjournment of the Court the presiding magistrate, Mr. F. 11. Levien, S.M., said ho wished to express his appreciation of the services which Sergeant Rowell had given to the force and the country. "It is when one realises the enormous responsibilities that rest upon the police force in the multiplicity of duties which come under its activities that one can appreciate the services of an officer like Sergeant Rowell," ho said. Mr. R. W. F. Wood, solicitor and town clerk of Otahuhu, and Mr. I. J. Goldstine tendered Sergeant Rowell thanks on behalf of the legal fraternity for the courtesy consistently extended to counsel. In reply, Sergeant Rowoll expressed his appreciation of the fine co-operation and assistanco which he had alwuys found in the many members of the" magisterial bench during his career.
