CHEMISTRY LECTURESHIP

DR. R. A. ROBINSON APPOINTED

The newly-created post of lecturer in physical chemistry at Auckland University College is to be filled by the appointment of Dr. R. A. Robinson, at present a lecturer in the University College of the South-west of England, Exeter. Dr. Robinson, who was appointed by the college council yesterday from 19 applicants on the recommendation of a selection committee in England, will take up his duties in February. He is 28 years of age, and had a distinguished record at the University of Birmingham, where ho obtained the master of science degree iu 1926. In the samo year he was awarded a Commonwealth Fellowship, and from 1927 to 1929 undertook research work and post-graduate study at the University of Pennsylvania and Yale University. He became demonstrator in chemistiy at University College, Exeter, in 1929, and was later appointed research assistant and lecturer to evening <Sass students. In 1930 ho took the degree of Ph.D., Birmingham. Dr. Robinson is an associate of the Institute of Chemistry and has contributed a number of papers to the transactions of learned societies in Britain and the United States.

The college council yestorday appointed Dr. W. F. Short to bo acting-head of the department of chemistry during the absence of Professor F. P. Worley, who is to take his sabbatical year's leave. .
