CALCUTTA, Nov. 19
Mr. Charles Luke, superintendent of the Rajshahi Gaol, was shot near the prison compound while he was driving with his wife and daughter. Three bullets struck Mr. Luke. His assailants escaped, but after several houses had been searched two arrests were made. One of the assailants threw his cycle in front of Mr. Luke's car, causing him to stop. The others then fired the three shots, one of which fractured Mr. Luke's jaw. The injured official pluckily drove his car home, where he collapsed. Now he is progressing favourably in hospital.
