WAIKATO RIVER BOARD
SPECIAL AREA LOANS The liquidation of the general liabilities of the late Waikato River Board, amounting to approximately £II,OOO, has been effected by assistance by the Government, concessions by the creditor institutions, and (he raising of a loan for the balance. Special loans raised by the board for drainage works in special areas are fitill outstanding, and steps are now l>eing taken to have interest and sinking fund collected to meet the charges on these. Jn Franklin County there are two such areas, embracing the country from Mercer to (lie head of the Mangatawhiri Valley. One loan is for £llOO and the other for £SOO. It is stated that the expenditure of these moneys resulted in a decided benefit in the areas concerned.
