FIJI'S ANNUAL SHOW

NEW ZEALAND'S EXHIBITS LARGE AND VARIED DISPLAY [from our own connrsi'ONDF.XT) SUVA, Oct. 22 A largo and comprehensive display arranged l>y Auckland manufacturers, attracted considerable interest at the Fiji Show, which was held last week. Apart, from the fact that this is the first timo that New Zealand lias ever been represented at (his fixture, which lent additional interest to the. exhibit, the dis play itself was sufficiently varied and interesting to attract its-own attention. 5 The show was held in two large sheds on the main wharf, and one of tlie.se was occupied to a large extent by the New Zeal and display, which was in one pieco running almost the length of the shed. On this kng stand the Dominion display was divided up into various exhibits and in front of each the name of tho manufacturer was prominently displayed. The exhibits included hams, tinned meats, preserved fruits, pickles, jams, breakfast fcods, footwear, clothing, ropes, building material, water appliances, furniluro and a host of other articles for the homo and the farm. Tinned foods and other delicacies from New Zealand, such as whitebait, oysters and toheroa soup, etc., occupied pride of place and probably commanded most attention from the womenfolk, variation in diet being ono of tho principal household problems in this country where fresh food is always difficult to keep. Mr. Miller, manager of Messrs. Rofs and Glendining, Limited, of Auckland, who is spending a holiday in the islands, was in charge of the New Zealand exhibit, and with the aid of officers of the Fiji Department of Agriculture, who assisted in arranging the goods, a very effective display resulted. Mr. S. Cox, of llellaby and Company, accom panied his firm's exhibit. Following the show some of the articles exhibited were displayed in local shops, and there is no doubt that with the extensive publicity given in the local press, a good advertisement was received by New Zealand for many lines that are well suited to the Island trade. Commenting upon the New Zealand exhibit, t'no Fiji Times and Herald, in an editorial, remarked that "those firms who have taken part have apparently spared neither trouble nor expense in order to make a, d splay which would properly represent the scope of primary and secondary industries to be found in NewZealand's leading city. The value of the Auckland trade to local banana growers is properly appreciated in Fiji," continued the article, "and every endeavour is being made to give New Zealand in return a bigger share of local trade than she has enjoyed in the past."
