NEW ONEWHERO HALL

OLD STRUCTURE REPLACED THE OFFICIAL OPENING [from our own correspondent] ONEWHERO, Monday A curious situation, whereby two public halls existed within half-a-mile of each other at Onewhero, has come to an end. The district is now served by one large up-to-date building. One of the halls was near the Onewhero post office, the other at a spot of historical interest to the district. It was at Te Hirua, where an attempt was made about 20 years ago to form another settlement. The hall was built, also a store and a dairy factory, but the settlement never grew larger, as it was too close to Onewhero. The store was closed and the factory was sold, but the hall remained. The two hall committees have now amalgamated. The new hall is on the site of the old Onewhero Hall and is built of the materials of both structures. It lias a floor space of 60ft. by 31ft., a spacious stage, supper room, library room and dressing rooms. The opening of the new hall took place on Friday evening and was a great success, about 500 people being in attendance. The member for Raglan, Mr. T). S. lie id, formally declared the hall open, and a concert and dance was held.
