SCHOOL BOXING

MOUNT ALBERT GRAMMAR DECISION OF CHAMPIONSHIPS The first annual boxing clitfinpionships of tho Mount Albert Grammar School were concluded in the school hall yesterday afternoon, the preliminaries having been decided the previous day. Tho standard displayed was quite good, and, considering that there were 150 entries, tho sport should make rapid progress in tho school. Mr. N. McLean, of the Northern Boxing Association, acted as refereo and judge, and upon his award Bethel gained the prize for being the most scientific boxer, and Overton the prize for the best loser. • At the conclusion of the tournament the headmaster, Mr. F. W. Gamble, expressed tho thanks of the school and trie scholars for the assistance rendered by officials of tha Northern Boxing Association in tho conducting of the tournament, which .had been a great success from every point of view. He congratulated the winners on being the first champions of the school and, in ccmplitienting the losers also, the headmaster urged them to try again next year, and lie also expressed tho hope that those boys who had been looking on would take an active part in the sport in future. As an instance of ' what trying could do, Mr. r Gamble pointed out that Finlayson, the school champion, had not ha<l on a pair of gloves until two day 3 before the tournament. BOY SCOUTS TOUBNEY BOUTS OF HIGH STANDARD Nearly 600 Boy Scouts from troop 3 all over Auckland attended the annual boxing tournament held under tho auspices of the Legion of Frontiersmen and Northern Boxing Association in tho Scots Hall last evening. A special trophy, the Legion of Frontiersmen Shield, which is competed for each year, was won by J. Heatherington for his troop (Cornwell) as the most scientific boxer. The majority of the bouts were of surprisingly high standard. The tourney was well conducted, bouts being run off in quick succession. The John Court Shield for firstaid competition was again won by the First Gordon Troop. Results were as follows:—G. Hiscock, 15 years, Sst 101b (Grey Lynn), beat L.
