WARM WEATHER WISDOM
One of the main purposes of food is to provide heat. Therefore, during the summer the normal diet requires modification. In warm weather we have to provide for only the amount of energy we require, so the heat-forming foods itiust bo cut down. Proteins and fats are the chief of these and they should be reduced by at least half. In order'to get the proper amount of food for our activities the carbohydrate ration must therefore be raised. This means that we should cut down meat, fish; cheese, fats and butter to half our usual quantity, and then make good the loss by taking sufficient cereals, fruit, vegetables and salads. In other words the starches and sugars should form at least three-quarters of our daily diet.
