MISHAP TO MOTOR-CAR
TELEPHONE WIRE ON ROAD BACK TYRES TORN TO PIECES [from our own correspondent] TE KUITI. Thursday An extraordinary mishap was experienced by a party of motorists travelling between Kihikihi and Te Kuiti. When in the vicinity of the racecourse at Te Kumi the car pulled up with a sudden jerk and went into a dangerous skid. It was found that a private telephone wire which had fallen across the road had become entangled with the brake drum* and the differential. The two back tyres of the car were ripped to pieces and the light manuka telegraph pole suspending the wire was torn down. It required an hour's work to disentangle the wire from the under-parts of the car.
