PLUNKET CHARITY DANCE
DIXIELAND CABARET » A novel form of entertainment was given at the Dixieland Cabaret last evening, when a special Barn Dance, the proceeds of which are«to go to the funds of the Plunket Society, was attended by more than 200 dancers. The charity entertainment was organised by the Regent Theatre, and, although the exact sum of money obtained was not available, it was stated that the Plunket Society would benefit considerably from the effort made on its behalf. The hostess of the evening was Airs. Alexander Follick. The cabaret had the appearance of a barn, being decorated with bluegums, and the cubicles were thatched with hay. In the specially-bedecked orchestra stand the players represented different members of the Rudd family (from "On Our Selection") and during the course, of the evening items were given by accordeon anc * violin soloists reminiscent of the days when the barn danco was at the zenith of its popularity. There were appropriate novelty items as a feature of the dance, a most popular one being a scarecrow solo by Miss Wilkin, which was enthusiastically encored. The pupils of Mr. Cox gave a special ballet number, which brought appreciation from the onlookers. W hen the dance was in full swing a film record of those present was made and will be shown at the Regent Theatre. The winners of the ''Dad and Mum" impersonation were Jtti. and Mrs. Len Adams, and the prizes, in keeping with the spirit of the evening, were two large hams._ mharefc As the guests arrived at the cabaret, they were welcomed by "Dad and Mum. Supper was set at long tables.
