TYPOGRAPHICAL DISPUTE
DEADLOCK OVER WAGES ADJOURNMENT OF PROCEEDINGS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] •WELLINGTON, -Thursday No agreement was reached in the Conciliation Council proceedings to-day in the dispute between the typographical workers and the employers. A deadlock was reached on the wages issue, and the proceedings were adjourned until November 15. When the hearing was resumed to-day it was agreed to hold over the disputed classification clause and discuss the wages clauses, which were the principal points in dispute. The employers' wages proposals provided for a reduction of approximately 10 per cent from the net rates now being paid. The workers' counter-proposals were on the basis of the existing award. Discussion on the wages clauses occupied the greater part of the day. Although concessions were mentioned and considered, no finality was reached. The adjournment decided upon is in accordance with the requirements of the Amended Act. If no agreement is come to by November 15 the present award will expire one month from the date of the commencement of the conciliation proceedings.
