MORE WELCOME RAIN
FALL DURING WEEK-END BENEFITS TO THE PASTURES Gardens and pastures in Auckland will be further refreshed by rain which fell during the week-end. Fine weather was experiencd on Saturday, but in the evening the wind freshened from the northeast ' and was accompanied by light sh Dwers which fell at intervals until nearly mid-day yesterday. Afterwards the sky was' overcast and threatening and last evening rain fell almost continuously until a late hour. Prior to Saturday rain had fallen on only five days this month and the total fall for the period was only ,35in. Nearly as much rain fell during the week-end. The showery and boisterous weather yesterday was responsible for a falling off in outdoor activities' in Auckland. The showery weather also affected the patronag3 of tho "mystery train" for trampers, although the number of trampers was in excess of the Railway Department's expectations. CONDITIONS IN NORTH GREAT GROWTH OF GRASS [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Sunday Steady, warm rain commenced at 11 o'clock this morning and was still falling this evening. This will have a further beneficial effect upon the pastures which are Juxiiriant throughout the north, and will enable the very heavy butter-fat production to bo maintained. Several paddocks which have been closed for hay, are showing wonderful growth. Shearing operations, which are now in full swing, will be delayed. ROTORUA'S GOOD SPRING PASTURES AND GARDENS [BY telegraph—OWN correspondent] ROTOKTJA, Saturday The recent showery weather has had a good effect on the countryside, and there has been a splendid growth of grass during the past week. The Government Gardens are looking very beautiful at present, tho various playing greens being in excellent condition. The flower beds are a blaze of colour with spring and early summer flowers, and the display is one of delight to visitors and residents.
