STRANGE DOUBLE LIFE

POLICEMAN AND BURGLAR OFFENDER SENT TO GAOL LONDON. Oct. 11 William .Doyle,, who served for 23 years in the Cambridge Police Force and fought in the South African War and the Great War, was sentenced to-day to five years penal servitude for burglary and larceny. It was revealed that Doyle had lived a " Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" existence for the past two years, being a zealous constable in the day time and a systematic burglar at night. He used a police set of duplicate keys ostensibly to examine and protect business premises, but instead he stole wine, women's clothing, a wireless set, watches and money. It has only just been discovered that the fingerprints in a burglary in 1930 were Doyle's. Several innocent shop assistants have been suspected o£ Doyle's crimes.
