ORPHANS' LADIES' NIGHT
BIRKENHEAD - NORTHCOTE The ninth session of tho Birkenhead and Northcoto Orphans' Club was closed on Saturday night with a most successful " ladies' night." Tho Buffalo Hall was filled, and the large gathering thoroughly enjoyed the function. Tho president, Mr. It. S. G. Holland, who presided, interspersed humorous anecdotes between the items. The orchestra, under Mr. A. W. Messenger, played the overture, " lhe Golden Magnet" (C. W. Bennett), the " Pythian March " (C. S. Morrison), tho selection, "A Darkic's Dreamland (Thomas Bidgood), and tho march, " The Gladiator's Farewell " (11. C. Blankcnburg), these numbers being greatly appreciated. Tho enjoyable programme submitted comprised songs by Messrs. Hugh Wood, C. O'Malley, Charles Hunter and Robt. Simmers, flute solos by Mr. T. Kenderdine, vocal duets by Messrs. Gordon Fagan and R. Simmers, and paper-tearing and lightning sketches by "Handini." lhe accompanist was Mr. Peter Black, 'lhe president intimated that tho general meeting had unanimously elected Dr. J. W. Craven a lifo member in recognition of his valued services to tho club. Dr. Craven conveyed his thanks for this mark of honour and appreciation. The gathering terminated with singing " Till We Meet Again," " 'l he More Wo Are logetlicr " and " Auld Lang Syne." Among those present were: —Mrs. R. S. G. Holland, Mrs. J. W. Craven, Mrs. D. M.
