THE TROTTING TRACK

USEFUL TRIALS AT EPSOM OLIVER THORPE'S TWO MILES SOUND DISPLAY BY CARL MACK BY ABAYDOS A good two miles by Oliver Thorpe, a fast-run mile and a-quarter by Gold Seam, and a sound display of trotting by Carl Mack, were "prominent features of the training work at Epsom yesterday. Tho track was in good order asd most of tho horses worked the reverse way round. Oliver Thorpo (W. AVilletts) ran his two miles in 4.30 2-5. As lie passed tho mile in 2.20. Prince Etawah (R. A. Shepherd) joined issue. The next half was run in 1.0, and tho last in 1.10 2-5, Oliver Thorpe finishing well. Carl Mack (lan Morrison) was not hurried in tho early stages of a two miles task, tho first mile taking 2.35. The pace was then improved and the work-out was completed in 4.53, the last half-milo in 1.10, Carl Mack never looked like making a mistake, and is in great heart for his Hamilton engagement. Glandore (A. McGarry) and Gold £?eam (L. McMahon) set off to go a mile and ahalf, but aftor covering three furlongs Gold Scam broke badly and was pulled up. Glandore ran the first half-mile in 1.10, tho second in 1.14, and tho third in 1.10. making 3.34. Gold Seam, alone, was given a solid run over a mile and a-quarter in tho smart time of 2.51. Although ho did not pace too kindly for the first couplo of furlongs, he got to the half-mile in J.'J, and passed tho milo in 2.10 J. Maintaining his speed ho caino homo tho last Quarter in 31}s. Kewpio's Triumph (fv. Bell) went off in front of Mountain Del! (L. Mitchell) for a two mile 3 work-out and tho positions were unaltered at tho milo in 2.33. tho mare pull-, j I ing very hard. They reached tho milo and a-half in 3.44, and turning on tho speed ran tho final half-mile iu 1.0, Kowpie's Triumph having a slight adv.antago at tho finish. Ncllolu (L. Mitchell) worked pleasingly over two miles in 4.51, running tho first milo in 2.2.5, and tho last half mile in 1.11. Assisted by Prince Etawah over tho first half-mile, Marble Star (R. Millen) took 3.51 i to run a milo and a-half. Tho first half in I.ll} was easily tho fastest section. Miss Joan Direct (C. Smith) was always in front of Nell Yolo (F. J. Smith) over a milo and a-half in 3.52, the last half being run in 1.111. Histcr Chris (F. J. Smith), after running half a milo in 3.1.'!, was picked up by Miss Joan Direct, who went off with a two lengths break. Groat) went out in front of Really (M. S. Groat) for a milo and a-half effort, and was still in front at the mile in 2.39. Realty moved up at tho quarter post and tho two finished on terms, running tho last half in 1.10. Margaret Wallace (E. G. Sandall) worked steadily over a milo and a-half in 3.40. The middle half-mile, in 1.12, was the fastest, Margaret Wallace was not hurried at any stage and could have gone a lot faster. Theliua Mack (A. G. Warnock) was not bustled to run a milo and a-half at a 2.20 gait, stepping briskly over tho last fewfurlongs. Pedlar (A. J. Julian) was allowed to take his time over a mile and a-quarter in 3.15. L'cdlar has done a lot of solid work and is in good order.
