TAKANINI TRACK NEWS

PILLOW FIGHT IMPRESSES GALLOP BY TEA TRADER CHIEF JOY AND PROLYXO The weather was fino and track conditions good at Takanini yesterday, when a lot of interesting work was performed on the middle grass. Gold Pocket (Taylor) led Expectancy (Gilmer) over half a mile iu 50 l-ss, neither being fully extended. Bugle Call (Grice) and Helium (Feam) went strongly over a round, the last halfmilo in 5Ss. Buglo Call is doing his work well without being asked for his beet. Tea Trader (Walters) strode over seven furlongs, with High Comedy (Edwards) to bring him home the last three and a-half furlongs. Tea Trader ran the last six furlongs in 1.21 2-5, the last three furlong 3 taking 36 3-ss, with High Comedy a neck in front. Both horses worked exceptionally well. Exaggeration (Gilmer) and Imperial Prince (Jones) also went seven furlongs, running tho last five in 3.8 3-5, Both were going strongly at the end. Thespis (McFarlane) covered a circuit, thfc last milo in 1.53 1-5. He was going freely throughout, and came home full of running. He should bo one of tho first of H. Gray's team to notch a victory. Royal Artist's Eflort Royal Artist (Walters) ran a milo and a-quarter with Spcedmint (Edwards) to assist over the first milo and Lady Carrington (Grice) over tho last threo and ahalf furlongs. Ho ran his last milo in 1.50 and his last half-milo in 52 l-sa, finishing on terms with Lady Carrington. It was a eatisfactory effort for tho Avondalo Cup candidate, who was running on nicely at tho end. Speedmint also moved freely, but she pulled up at tho homo turn and was not timed separately. Greek Gold (Taylor) was a-length in front of Holly Lu (Jones) at the end of seven furlongs in 1.31 2-5, tho last nix in J. 20 3-5. Greek Gold was being kept up to his work, but his offort was eatisfactory, as ho wns carrying considerably more weight than his stable-mate. Thero was little between Chief Joy (Gilmer) and Prolyxo (Moore) over six furlongs in 1.20. Both horses did their work freely an l came homo strongly. Chief Joy acting much belter under the improved conditions. Great Emblem (Wynd) and Ehlora (Manson) were to have galloped five furlongs together, but Great Emblem broke away, to run the distanco in 1.8 3-5, Eldora improving on this by thrco seconds. Great Emblem worked lazily, but Eldora showed that she is maintaining her rato of progiess. Arch Ruler (Forsyth) gave Lord Willonyx (Fearn) a length and a-half start and finished on terms with him over half a mile in 52 l-ss. Arch Ruler shaped nicely, and Lord Willonyx sprinted well for a lioise that has done little fast work. Pillow Fight's Sprint Pillow Fight (Bagby) and Mashoor (Farrell) were on terms over half a mile in 53 4-ss, but Pillow Fight was pulling doublo and could have done a lot better. This was his first sprint since coming to Takanini, and those who saw it were impressed by his resolute manner of galloping. He is now coming on rapidly, and has every appearance of being a top-notclier. Gay Marigold (.Moore) was not doing her best to run half a mile in 50s. Although small, she is bright and muscular, and may show up in minor company whenever required to race. Miss Rewa (Crowley) was all out to run five furlongs in 1.4 4-5. Sho worked after breakfast, when tho track was faster owing to a heavy dew having driod up. Cat-i-mes (Crowley) and Prince of Orange (Walters) jumped four hurdles at lacing pace and gave a first-class exhibition, with Cat-i-mes' fencing a little the faster. Sho has been worked regularly and looks ready to- race at any tijv& Palace, Huntingdon, Bell Topper, Foulwind and Tatyoon did nothing, strenuous, as all five were galloped from the barrier on Monday. The half-brother to Llewellyn in C. Morse's charge was sired by Turina, a hunter that raced at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting. Ho is a fine type for a jumper and ho is new shaping up well on the work recently allotted to him. The Tasanini light-weight IT. Gilmer has been engaged to ride Glenrata. Sweet Whisper and Whakapara in their Avondale engagements.

DAUGHTER OF DESERT GOLD FINTRY'S FIRST APPEARANCE Fintry, the two-year-old daughter of Desert Gold, attracted attention when ehe made her first public appearanco in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Nap : er. So far the progeny of Mr. T. H. Lowry's great mare have not approached her in galloping ability. She has been served by Finland, King John, Absurd, Psychology. Grandcourt and Chief - Ruler; and Fintry is the result of Chief Ruler mating. Oreum. by Kins John, and Chrysology, by Psychology, have done best on the raco tracks, but neither compiles with the dam in class. Fintry does not rcsemblo the mare, being a bright chestnut in colour and a typical Chief Ruler She is not very forward and this, coupled with tho eoft track, did not enable her to make a very bold showing. After running third for two furlongs she began to drift back and finished hist of the seven runners. It is much too early to form any opinion of her capabilities. A. COOK'S TWO-YEAR-OLDS SOME PROMiSING MATERIAL [from our own correspondent] TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday In two-year-olds alone, A. , Cook has a good team under his caro, for no fewer than seven youngsters are receiving their tuition at his hands. Impasto has already received much favourable comment in regard both to appearanco and manner of galloping. While ho shows speed, his owner, Mr. A? J. McGovcrn. looks to him to shine moro as a stayer than us a sprinter. Dinclli lias faced the elarlcr twice at this early date, to bo in a place each time, and (did is improving rapidly. While her races have not shown her to be a champion, her speed and experience should help her at Avondale next week. Trickling Writers, by Gay Shield from Boynetle, started her education with Impasto and Dinclli, and is capable of showing plenty of speed, but does not move as kindly as the other two. However, she has quality and ehould be useful. The full-brother to Te Kara has had a very quiet campaign (o date and is doing well on easy work. In looks, this General La tour gelding takes second place to liolio of (he younger brigade. One of Cook's most recent additions is a. neat, bay gelding who claims King Lu and All Win as his parents. He is rounding into a good stamp of gelding. A racy-looking Gay Shield—Persis colt is also a lato addition to the stable. While nothing very strenuous has been asked of him, ho gives tho impression of carrying some speed. A Muskeloon colt from Shower of Gold inndo his first appearanco here Inst Saturday. A bright chestnut with n white f:ico i:rid threo white legs, ho is well set up, showing ft lot of quality and more siv.c than any of his sire's local representatives. Altogether ho is a striking-looking colt and .would claim attention in any company. NEW ZEALAND MORSES (Received October 4, 11.45 p.m.) SYDNEY. Oct. 4 Concenlralo and Oralorian havo been scratched from the Canlfield Cup. Concentrate has slightly improved and probably will bo sent back homo with Silver Ring, Inflation nnd Autopay on October 14. McAuley probably will go to Melbourne with Nitrhlmarch nnd Trushaft. Wiggins is going to ride Admiral Drake. Cylinder is receiving diathermal treatment for leg trouble and may yet go to Melbourne. WELL-BRED COLT DIES Mr. Wilfred .Toliuslone, of Tamahere, has had tho misforluno to lose, following upon an operation, a very tine colt foal by Peter Bingen from Her Ladyship, a good performer some seasons ago. Tho colt, was bred on excellent lines, as Her Ladyship is a daughter of Lady Derby by Logan Pointer, and a, grand-daughter of the great brood mare Norice, whose sons Native King, Nelson Derby and Nelson Fame were very highclass performers.
