WAIKATO BRANCH GRANTING OF LICENCES [from oub. own- correspondent) . . HAMILTON, Monday The annual meeting of the Waikaio branch of th© Real Estate Institute of New Zealand was held this evening, Mr. A. Sorby presiding. In his report tha chairman said the Waikato branch had a membership of 30. Many licences had been granted to land agents .who. had not become members, and the chairman suggested that legislation should be promoted .making it necessary for all applicants for licences to first obtain the approval of the institute and to become members. The balance-sheet showed a small surplus. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. A. N. Willis; committee, •Messrs. A. Sorby. H. G. Saunders, R. p. Young, H. B. Matthews, G. H. ChesteFman, E. 0. Mackay, F. J. Marsell, J. Gilbert, R. Andrew, S. T. Cooper; delegates to the New Zealand Conference, Messrs. G. Boyes and A. N. Wiilis. "We must take more interest in politics," said Sir. H. E. Yaile, of Auckland, in addressing the meeting. The politicians interfered so much with the work of the land agents that the latter could not afford to keep out of politics, he continued. The politicians knew nothing about business or finance, but they would interfere with both. The politicians wanted everyone else to practise economy but did not practise it themselves. If the Government minded its own business and allowed the people to mind theirs it would be better for all concerned.
