GOLF IN ENGLAND
PROFESSIONAL TOURNEY COTTON'S BRILLIANT WIN LONDON, Sept. 23 In the final of the News of the World 1000 guineas golf tournament T. H. Cotton (Langley Park, Kent) defeated A. Perry (Leatherhead), 10 and 8.
Cotton's sweeping victory in dull, drizzly weather at Moor Park is sure to become historic, as lie showed magnificent form and probably would have beaten any living golfer. He was six up at the end of the first round, which he completed in 65 or 11 strokes below bogey.
Perry really played well, but was outclassed by the most brilliant round of Cotton's career. Cotton throughout aimed at par figure for every hole, and generally achieved it. He showed no relaxation or deterioration in the second round.
Thomas Henry Cotton, who was born in 1907, competed in the first boys' golf championship in 1921. At the age of 17 he turned professional. He was assistant at Indwell, Rye and Cannes, and at the age of 19i was appointed professional to the LAngfey Park Club. He won the Kent professional championship each year 1926-30.
