A BIRTHDAY BALL

NAVAL AND MILITARY MISSIONS TO SEAMEN To celebrate the official opening of the new headquarters of the Flying Angel Missions to Seamen, in Sturdce Street, by Commodore F. Burges Watgon on September 7, a most enjoyable birthday ball organised by a number of naval officers and their wives, together with"'members of tho Officers' Club, was held in the new institute on Saturday evening. The room whero dancing was held was most attractively decorated, flags of all nationalities draping the walls and pillars, their bright colours being offset by masses of bamboo foliago and graceful palms, which flanked tho entrances and wcro also placed at the base of each pillar. Vases of fragrant stock adorned the small tables in the lounge, .whilo Iceland poppies and anemones wcro to be seen artistically arranged in the supper room downstairs. On arrival tho guests were received by the Rev. H. K. Vickery, chaplain to tho mission, and Mrs. Vickery, tho latter wearing a frock of cobalt blue moire silk with a georgette shoulder capo in the same shade. Mrs. Preston Chambers, president of the Harbour Lights Guild, attended tho dance, and was presented with a charming posy of flowers.
