A close finish was staged in the Domain 'rot. Half Hio field entered the straight in

fairly close formation. Inside tho distance (ho favourite. King's Cup. drew out, but was soon collared by both Jimmy do Oro and Iron Man. King's Cup, however, made a renewed effort 50yds. from tho post and irot ud

to beat Jimmy do Oro by a head, with a similar margin to Iron Man. Silver Whip was a poor fourth. Jimmy do Oro was probably unlucky, as ho lost valuablo ground when Titri broko in front of him. Another hard struggle was witnessed in (he Presidents' Handicap. Ranelagh, Rational 11. and Done Joso wero in the rear right up to tho straight entrance. Don Jose drew up to tho leader, Adclphi, commencing tho run home. A little further on Ranelagh, then Rational 11. joined in. In a punishing finish Ranelagh got a head verdict from Rational If., who boat Don Joso by half a length. Adelphi was only a head away in front of Juniper and Somo Toff.

Belvair, who was allowed to pny a falsa price in the Stewards' Stakes, was the first to show out and had the field in trouble throughout. Belvoir was followed into tho straight by Assemble. Inevitable and Nieht Ivecilal. After Assemble had failed 1o make any impression 011 Iho leader in tho run homo Night Recital made a challenge. Belvoir, however, held his advantage and won by neck, lnovitable was closo ud third, just in front of Assemble. Smoke Screen was favourito for tho "Winchester Trot and made a bold bid for victory, being always one of the front division. Smoke Screen followed the early pacemaker. Lena Thorpe, into tho straight. In a sustained finish Lena Thorpe hung on to win by a head. Whetstone was a good third, in front of Grand Finale, Essay "and "Waress. Key Direct lost a lot of ground at tho start.

Some Good, who was allowed to uav a better price in the Gladstone Handicap than the first day's form suggested, followed Royal Sceptre and Bold Brigand into tho straight and, although fully extended by Metal Bird, recorded a decisive victory, winning by two lengths. Bold Brigand was three lengths .away third, in front of Niggerhead and ,Royal Sceplro. The favourite, Ardon's Beauty, got away badly and was never in the picture. Ranelagh, carrying a 71 b. penalty, reeled off another meritorious performance in tho Farewell Handicap. He was tailed off early and only commenced to make lip the leeway rounding the far turn. Red Racer had a clear lead entering the straight from Some Toff, Craigavon,. Flower. Elude and, Ranelagh. The last-named _ commenced his run from the distance. Again responding gamely, lie headed tho leader in the last couple of strides, to beat him by half a length. Flower finished on well into third place another :half-length away, with Elude a length back. Craigavon, Coomassio and Some Toff followed.
