RESTRICTED IMMIGRATION
FEWER NEW ARRIVALS The total number of arrivals in New Zealand from the United Kingdom and Ireland during tho year ended March 31 last was 2258 (1178 males and 1080 females), according to the report of the Department of Immigration, presented to Parliament on Friday.
"During tho past year," said tho report, "the restricted policy lias been carried out strictly, and consequently the number of new arrivals shows a marked decline over the figures for tho previous year." Out of the total arrivals for the year, 290 were assisted by the British and New Zealand Governments, and that number included persons nominated from New Zealand and those who applied for assisted passages in London.
