LANG APPOINTMENTS
LABOUR DEPARTMENT POSTS ABOUT 130 DISMISSALS Of the 250 Ministerial appointments to the Department of Labour and Industry in New South Wales during the Lang Government about 130 have been dismissed since the present Government took office. Most of the Lang appointees were engaged in the Public Service as dole inspectors or in the distribution of food relief.
Shortly after taking office the Minister for Labour, Mr. Dunningham, requested the Public Service Board to review the appointments made in the department by the previous Government. As a result of the board's inquiry those considered unsuitable for their positions have been retrenched.
The Government has decided that in future all appointments should be made on the recommendation of the Public Service Board and should be free from political patronage.
