SATOH defeats vines BRITISH PAIR DOING WELL (Received September 23, 0.5 p.m.) LOS AJsGELES. Sept. 22 In the Pacific south-west tennis tournament to-day Satoh (Japan) eliminated the American star Ellsworth Vines from the singles, (3-4, 6-4. Other results were:— Austin (Britain) defeated Van Ryn 5—4 I—6, 6—o; de Stefani (Italy) beat' Allison, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1; and Perry (Britain) defeated Keith Gledhill, 4—6, 6—4, 12—10.
In the doubles Perry and Austin, advanced to tho semi-finals by defeating Lewis and Tidball (University of California), 4—6, 7—5, 7—s^
