BIRTH-RATE RISES
ENGLAND AND WALES FIGURES FOR JUNE QUARTER (Received September 23, 6.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY. Sept. 22 The birth-rate, which has been on the decline in Britain, shows an increase in t!be returns issued by the RegistrarGeneral for the quarter ended June 30. There were in that period 165,456 births ill England-and Wales, or 1696 more than in the corresponding quarter of last year. I'his corresponds to an annual rate of 16.6 per 1000. The mortality among babies under one year of age was equal to 58 per 1000 of Jive births'.
