DISMISSAL OF MINERS
SMALLER COAL ORDERS INFLUENCE OF'WARMER WEATHER _ The dismissal of a fairly large number of men from the Waikato coal mines which has taken place during the past week ;is due to the falUng .off m coal orders, following the approach of warmer weather, according to representatives of several of the companies in Auckland. " The men are being dismissed merely because there is now a falling-off in work | at the mines," said an official of one „y company. "It is not the wish of the company to unnecessarily put men off, hut when we have no work for them that position is forced on us. The decrease : i; in orders now being noticed is the usual seasonal trend, and we are now working down to the two-day week, which is suffi- 1 cient to meet th« summer demand."
