PROPOSED SCENIC ROUTE
WAITAKERE RANGES ROAD CONFERENCE TO BE HELD A conference of members of Parliament and other parties interested in the proposed Waitakere Kidgeway Drive has been convened by Mr. W. A. Bishop, chairman of the Waitemata County Council, to take place on October 3. A circular letter in connection with the ; conference states that during the past few months a proposal has been pub forward to farm the drive, and, incidentally, to absorb unemployed. Owing to the short distance of the work from the city, married men could return home for week-ends. It is estimated that some 400 men could be employed. The letter &tates that the main idea of | the scheme is to provide a scenic drive which would give wonderful views of forest, hills, open country, both the Waitemata and Manukau Harbours, Auckland city and the surrounding districts, and distant mountains, making a panorama probably unequalled elsewhere in the Dominion. Briefly, it is proposed to connect by way of the main divide of the Waitakeres the Titirangi highway with the main highway at Swanson, thus providing a round trip of about 42 miles from the city and back.
