Unvarnished white paint should be cleaned with a flannel, warm water and whitening. Dark paint which has become shabby is wonderfully improved if rubbed with equal parts of linseed oil and vinegar and polished with a soft cloth. Turpentine added to starch helps the iron to run smoothly and also gives a high gloss to clothes. A few drops only arc necessary. Turpentine will also remove tar stains. Apply a paste of fuller's earth mixed with turpentine, benzine or petrol. Leave until dry. Then brush with a stiff brush. Repeat if necessary. When washing starched tablecloths, table napkins, etc.. see that the old starch is soaked out of the articles before thev are dipped in starch again, otherwise thev will lose their colour. Knitting wool can be joined without the join being noticeable if one end is threaded into a thin darning needle, and this run into the other end of the wool for a length of about three inches, lake out the needle and pull the end back so that tho two look like one continuous piece'of wool. Knit on in tho usual way, being careful not to pull the wool apait. The join thus made will be strong, with no ends to fasten, as is usually the case. When washing doeskin or wash-leather .gloves, instead of squeezing them out. as is generallv done, jut the gloves carefully through the mangle. They will dry much quicker and be much more pliable, and also kcQp their shapo better. Push the fingers out gently with an ordinary i peg instead of pulling' them oil the hands.
