ROTORUA

HUNT FESTIVITIES The Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club held its first point-to-point steeplechase and gymkhana meeting in glorious weather at Arawa Park on Wednesday. A number of most enthusiastic supporters attended and they were rewarded with an excellent day's sport. Under the baton of Lieutenant E. Tregilgas, the Rotorua Boys' Band rendered a delightful musical programme.

The lady riders included Mrs. R. C. Smith, Mrs. F. Stanier, Mrs. O'Connell. Mrs. Humphries, Mrs. Willmott, Miss Joan Bertram, Miss Betty Bertram, Miss Belle Watson (Te Puke), Miss Richards (Te Puke). Hunt Club Ball A wonderful success on Wednesday evening was the ball given by the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club in the Majestic Ballroom, which was a fairyland of punga ferns and multi-coloured streamers. Interspersed in the foliage were large horseshoes in red and yellow, and hanging from the ceiling were multitudinous coloured balloons, which later were utilised by the throng of dancers in a balloon dance. In thfe supper room the walls were decorated with foliage and red camelias, and the tables were arranged with vases of spring flowers and streamers of red and yellow. For each guest were favours in the form of miniature red and yellow whips. In the course of the evening Dr. H. Bertram the M.F.H., thanked all those Eeople upon whose land the various hunts ad taken place. He also gave special thanks to the lady members of the club for the estimable manner in. which they had provided afternoon teas throughout the season. Great praise was also duo to the huntsman, Mr. T- Jackson, and the secretary, Mr. E. La Trobe Hill for t_hp excellent way in which they had carried out their duties.

Dancing was kept up till a late hour to the bright music supplied by Epj Shalfoon and his Molody Boys. An excellent programme had been arranged to include the hunting lancers and also a number of the old-time measures.

Mrs. Lan Hamilton, of Hawke's Bay, is spending a week in Rotorua as the fguest of Mrs. F. Stanier. Miss M. Kerr, of Te Puke, visited Rotorua during hunt week. Mrs. J. D. C. Duncan, of Hinemoa Street, left on Tuesday to spend a holiday in tho South Island. Miss A. C. Searell, of King George V. Hospital, is visiting Auckland.
