FRUIT FOR AUSTRALIA
REMOVAL OF BAN SOUGHT CONTROL OF IMPORTATIONS [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WELLINGTON. Friday The position under which New Zealand received practically unlimited supplies of fruit from Australia while an embargo exists upon the importation of New Zealand fruit into Australia was the subject of strong protests at the Fruitgrowers' Federation Conference to-day. Mr. H. Nottage (Nelson) proposed a remit that the federation should make representations to the Government to take such steps as would bring about a discontinuance of the ruinous competition from Australia. There was a further remit from Teviofc that the Government should review trading conditions between Australia and the Dominion so as to prevent the dumping of fresh and. canned fruits. The remits were taken together. The conference passed the following resolution :—" That the Government be asked to take immediate steps to have the embargo against the importation of New Zealand fruit into Australia removed, failing which steps be taken to regulate and restrict the importation of horticultural products from Australia. Also, that it be an instruction to the federation to arrange for a deputation to wait upon the Government in regard to the matter."
