NOTORIOUS GANGSTER APPLICATION TO COURT (Received September 22, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK. Sept. 21 Another effort to obtain his freedom was made by Al. Cnpono to-day. Handcuffed to guards ho appeared in the Federal Court at Atlanta in habeas corpus proceedings to set aside his sentence. The ground of the application was that the statuto of limitations forbade punishment for violations of the income-tax regulations which occurred three years before the charges were laid. The hearing of the petition was set clown for October 19.
